Partitioning is the work of cutting / delimiting forests into parcels. It also includes the development of access roads for vehicles that will come to transport the cut trees or any other operating machines.

Thinning aims to select the trees in a plot that have the least future, and which must therefore be cut in order to improve the development of those remaining.

In both types of work, tree marking paints and marking accessories are used.

The marking of future trees is done on trees selected for their quality and vigor, and on which the professionals of the forestry sector concentrate their improvement works. Their exploitation is thus planned for the long term (several decades, even over a century, for certain species).

The colors or shapes of the marking will vary according to the needs: generally warm colors (red, orange, yellow, pink) for trees to be felled and cold (white, black, green, blue) for those to be preserved.

A log represents a tree (trunk section or complete trunk) that has been cut down, its branches removed, and its bark removed or preserved depending on the future of the wood.

To identify standing timber or logs, indicate their source, make their inventory and validate the conformity of the cut (verification), forestry professionals will have to apply markings and hammerings using tools such as tree marking paints paints and/or a forestry hammer.

The markings will ideally indicate the origin, the species of the wood, the identification number assigned to the tree during the logging inventory, the forestry number and the company/licensee, etc.
